MORE OF HELSINKI – PART 2

TEMPPELIAUKIO CHURCH
Quarried out of the natural bedrock, Temppeliaukio Church was designed by Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen and completed in 1969. It stands at No. 2 in Helsinki’s Top 10 Architecture List. It is used for religious services and is also a popular venue for concerts.

RESTAURANT DAY
Restaurant Day (once a year) is a fine example of Helsinki’s food culture. Soup in a shoe shop, cupcakes and bagels in the park, or Finnish local food in the courtyard of an apartment building. Locals are invited to set up their own pop-up restaurant.
Our Restaurant yesterday and today has been Raffaello’s where we have thoroughly enjoyed our main meal.

SHOPPING (certainly not my favourite occupation)
Helsinki offers the best shopping opportunities in Finland, from huge Department stores to shopping centres and arcades.

BY THE SEA
Helsinki is a city by the sea with Cargo Ships, Cruise vessels and sailing boats and a very old shipyard where huge vessels were once built.

The Bus Tour today, with just two stops, gave us much information and enabled us to see more of HELSINKI than would have otherwise been possible.

Below is a Florist shop photo as gardens with flowers are not to be seen during the Winter months.
